Mayor Weinbrecht is in his 7th year as mayor of Cary. He spoke earlier this month at the Cary Chamber of Commerce and here are some tidbits from his presentation:

Fast Facts:
*The current population is 151,772
*Cary’s tax rate is the lowest in the county at 35 cents
*2/3 of Cary’s population have college degrees and 1/4 have advanced degrees
*18 percent were born in another country
*Reserve balance is 3x the state required and debt is 11% with a conservative budget
*$17 million under budget last year
*Safest city in nation by FBI
*8th best place to live

Council:
Council members average 11 years of service
Nonpartisan
6 council members right now

Town of Cary:
The town has 1200 employees
8 employees per thousand residents
Other municipalities average 11 employees per thousand
Chamber/Town partnership is strong
Unemployment is 3.5% in Cary which is considered full employment

Safety:
GeoPolicing – officers are assigned to specific areas and are experts in those areas
The town has a citizen police academy
Lowest crime rate in US
Education and involvement is key
New Fire Station # 2 will be built on Chatham St.
New Walnut St. Fire Station will be built next (#9)

Parks and Recreation:
Cary has 30 parks plus facilities including 3 community centers
Veterans freedom park is the newest and is 12 acres on N. Harrison
Downtown Central Park will be 7 acres eventually
Jack Smith park is 50 acres
82 current miles of greenways
150 more miles of greenways are planned
