Do you wish you knew more people in your neighborhood? If the answer is “yes” then you are probably not alone in wanting to be able to greet neighbors by name and trade excess garden goodies and perhaps even have annual neighborhood gatherings.
Why not grab somebody that you do know and pass out fliers to the neighborhood asking residents if they want to join a neighborhood specific google group? Here’s a video “how-to” for Google groups. Look into Nextdoor.com which is a neighborhood social network. It will take a few minutes to sign up and your address will be verified via your cell phone or a credit card that is registered to the address you provide. Then you will see who else may have signed up! You can even put a sign in a visible (and allowable) spot giving a web address for sign-up suggestions to the neighbors.
Remember the folks who might not use the internet and consider other ways to engage them and keep them in the loop. It will be well worth your while!
It’s always nice to know several neighbors to borrow eggs and milk from, and then to deliver cookies to!
